Ban the use of fish as carnival prizes in your city
When fish are given out as prizes, recipients may be unprepared for the responsibility and might keep fish in poor conditions due to a lack of research or investment in their welfare. This practice treats fish as disposable objects for entertainment, rather than living beings.
Betta World For Bettas encourages and empowers individuals to take action in their communities to end the use of fish and live animals as prizes.
Berkeley's Model
In 2017 the city of Berkeley, California adopted an ordinance (10.12.235). banning the use of live fish as prizes in carnivals and fairs. One intention of the ordinance was to serve as model legislation that could encourage other cities to pass similar laws.
